Ok, so let me get to the point of why I would devote one blog post to this subject. If you have collections on your credit report that show a balance even though you have paid them off, they are obviously hurting your credit profile. On top of that, if you have collections on your credit report that you have paid off and they show no balance they often report with a bad ‘rating’.
You really can get your credit report for free at www.annualcreditreport.com but any other site comes with a bit of a catch. They all require you to sign up for something. The free report is the carrot that they dangle to get you in the door. After they get you in the door and clicking the link to get the free credit report they throw a little curve ball at you and this is when it is not so free.
